覚え方
古英語 eallswā（同じように）= eall（すべての）+ swā（そのように）。「まったくそのように」という強い言い方で、これが縮まって also になり、さらに弱まった形が as。
中心にあるのは比べる働きで、as ... as（同じ程度に）が基本。そこから「〜のときに」「〜なので」へ広がり、「〜として」は、ある人や物をそのようなものと見なす使い方にあたる。
