覚え方
complex（多くの部分から成る・複雑な）+ -ity（性質を表す名詞を作る）。complex の奥は **kom-（共に）+ pleḱ-（折る・編む） で、「いくつもの筋が一緒に編み込まれている」状態。
編み目が絡み合っているほど解きほぐしにくい。だから「複雑さ・込み入った事情」。計算機科学では time complexity（計算量）のように「規模の増え方」も表す。
同じ *pleḱ- に complicated（何重にも折り重なった）・perplex（すっかり絡ませる→当惑させる）・pleat（ひだ）。plex/plic は「折る・編む」と読む。
