complexの語源と覚え方
覚え方
plex はラテン語 plectō「編む・折り重ねる」。com（共に）と合わさると「いくつもの部分を折り合わせて絡ませる」で、絡み合ってほどけないものは単純でなく「複雑な」。名詞では複数の要素が組み合わさった「複合体」を指し、a housing complex（団地）のようにも使う。
perplex（すっかり絡ませる→当惑させる）も同じ plex。complexity・complexion も「部分が組み合わさった状態」と考えるとつながる。
plex を「折り重ねる」と読めば、complex の複雑さが見えてくる。
