ラテン語 concursus(集合・群集)= concurrō(共に走る・駆け集まる)+ -tus(動作を表す名詞を作る)。「あちこちから走り寄って一つに集まること」が原義。
人が流れ込んで行き交う場所そのものを指すようになり、今は駅や空港の「中央大広間=コンコース」。抽象的に a concourse of people(人の集まり)とも言う。
concur(同時に起こる)・current(流れ)・course(進路)と同族で、cur/course は「走る・流れる」。
