覚え方
fifteen（15）+ -th（序数を作る語尾） で「15 番目の」。fifteen 自体も five（5）+ -teen（13〜19 の数を作る） という組み立て。
中英語では fiftenthe、古英語ではその数詞が fīftīene だった。five が fif- と短く変わるのは fifth・fifty でも同じで、英語の中で古くから起きている変化。
-th はゲルマン系の古い序数語尾で、fourth・sixth・tenth と共通する。分数でも同じ形を使い、a fifteenth は「15 分の 1」。first・second・third だけが別系統の形になっている。
