nowhereの語源と覚え方
覚え方
no（一つも〜ない）+ where（どこに・どこで） の複合語で、古英語 nōhwēr にさかのぼる。「どこにも〜ない」がそのままの意味である。
nowhere to go（行く当てがない）のように場所を否定するほか、get nowhere（何の進展もない）、out of nowhere（どこからともなく、突然）といった慣用表現でよく使う。単独で否定を担うので、not と重ねない。
同じ作りに nobody・nothing があり、no + 疑問詞で「誰も／何も／どこにも〜ない」という一組になる。反対は everywhere・somewhere・anywhere。
