覚え方
quote はラテン語 quotus（何番目の・幾つ目の）にさかのぼる。何番目の箇所か、どの部分かを特定する感覚から、文章の一部を取り出して示す「引用する・引用」へ意味が発展した。また、金額をいくつと見積もるかを示すことから「見積もり」の意味も生まれた。
quotus のもとにある *kʷ- は疑問詞の基礎要素で、*kʷó- は疑問・関係代名詞の語幹である。quot- を見たら『いくつ・どの箇所』を指定すると覚えると、quote（引用・見積もり）と quotation（引用文・見積額）をまとめて理解できる。
