覚え方
regardless は regard（見る・考慮する）+ -less（〜がない）。「考慮するものがない」＝何かを気にかけずに、という組み立てで、「〜に関係なく・それでも」という意味になる。
regardless of the cost（費用に関係なく）のように of を伴う形が基本。regard がもともと「よく見る→評価する・配慮する」であることを押さえると、それを打ち消した regardless の感覚がつかみやすい。
-less の背後には *lewh₁-（解く・放つ）があり、「切り離されて自由な＝それが無い」という発想。loose（緩い）・lose（失う）と同じ流れである。regard しない＝関係なくと覚えるとよい。
