覚え方
ラテン語 sēnsibilis（感覚を通じて検出または知覚できる）= sentiō（感じる・知覚する）+ -bilis（〜できる・〜されうる）。sentiō は *sent-（感じる・考える）に結びつくため、原義は「感じ取ることができる」。そこから、現実をきちんと感じて判断できる人や考えを指して、「賢明な・合理的な・実用的な」という意味になった。
sense（感覚・意味）、sensitive（敏感な）、sentiment（感情・意見）も、感じたり考えたりするイメージを共有する。sensible を見たら「感じ取れるので、現実的に判断できる」と覚えると、「感知できる」と「賢明な」の二つの意味をつなげられる。
