同じ *bʰergʰ- からは borough（城壁に守られた町）・burrow（巣穴）が出ている。英語の bury は「埋める」から「隠す」まで幅があり、bury one's face in one's hands（両手に顔を埋める）・bury the hatchet（和解する）のように使う。
