discord1の語源と覚え方
覚え方
discord はラテン語 discordia（不和・争い）に由来し、そのもとになった discors（仲の悪い・一致しない）に、抽象名詞を作る -ia が加わった語である。互いの気持ちや意見が同じ方向を向かず、調和しない状態が原義のイメージになる。
discors に関わる *ḱerd-（全身に血液を送り出す中心器官）は、「心臓・中心」を表す由来として捉えられる。discord は「心や中心が一致しない状態」から「不和・紛争」へ発展した語で、cord を見たら心・中心、dis- を見たら離反と読むと覚えやすい。
