覚え方
ラテン語 discursus（あちこち走り回ること） = discurrō（あちこち走り回る）+ -tus（動作を表す名詞をつくる要素）。話題から話題へ走り回るように行き来する、その動きが語の中心にある。
そこから「考えを展開すること」→「まとまった論説・談話」、動詞では「論じる・語る」になった。単発の発言ではなく、複数の考えが動きながら連なる言葉の流れと捉えるとよい。
同族に course（進路・流れ）・current（流れ）・occur（心に浮かぶ）・excursion（遠出）。curs-/cour- を見たら「走る・流れる」と読み、discursive（話があちこちに及ぶ）も同じ絵で理解できる。
