覚え方
ros は「かじる」、ion がその動作と結果を名詞にする。ラテン語 ērōsiō は「かじり取ること」で、表面が少しずつ削られ、形や厚みが失われていく現象が erosion＝浸食・摩滅である。
水や風が岩を削る自然現象だけでなく、土壌の流出や金属表面の摩耗にも使い、比喩では信頼や価値がじわじわ減ることも表す。
動詞は erode（浸食する・徐々に損なう）。少しずつ削られていく過程が erosion とつかんでおけば、二つまとめて思い出せる。
