forewordの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ドイツ語 Vorwort を英語に置き換えて作られた語。vor（前）+ Wort（語） を fore-（前）+ word（語） に一語ずつ置き換えた、逐語訳の作り方をしている。
本の冒頭に置く文章だが、preface（著者自身が書く序）と違って、foreword は著者以外の人が寄せる文を指すのが普通。推薦文に近い役割を持つ。
Wort の芯は *werh₁-（話す）で、英語の word（語）・verb（動詞）と同じ系統。vor は *per-（前に・前方に）で、before・forward とつながっている。
