覚え方
ラテン語 īnfernālis = īnfernus + -ālis（名詞から関係を表す形容詞を作る語尾）。同じ īnfernus から、英語の inferno（地獄・大火）も出ている。
infernal は「地獄の」で、infernal regions と言えば冥界のこと。
そこから「いまいましい・ひどい」という強い不満の表現にもなり、this infernal noise（このいまいましい騒音）のように使う。
