覚え方
ラテン語 partītiō（分割・分配）= partiō（分ける・分配する）+ 動作や結果を表す名詞を作る接尾辞。「分けること」と「分けた結果」の両方を担う語。
名詞では部屋を仕切る「間仕切り」、国や領土の「分割」（the partition of a country）、記憶装置の「パーティション」。動詞では partition off a room（部屋を仕切る）と使う。
カタカナ表記は「パーティション」「パーテーション」と揺れるが、どちらもこの語の写し。感染対策で飲食店に置かれたアクリル板の「仕切り」もこれにあたる。
