subdivisionの語源と覚え方
覚え方
sub-（下位の）+ division（分割・区分）で、subdivision は大きな区分をさらに分けることや、その結果できた小さな区分を表す。全体の下に、もう一段細かいまとまりを設ける作りである。
a subdivision of a department は「部門内の下位区分」。土地の話では住宅用に分けて開発した区域を指し、a new subdivision は「新しい宅地分譲地」になる。大きなまとまりを小さな区画へ分けることを中心にすると、組織と土地の意味がつながる。
