attractの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ラテン語 attrahō（引き寄せる）= ad-（〜へ）+ trahō（引きずる・引く）。その過去分詞 attractus から、英語の tract の形が来ている。
何かを「こちらへ引きずる」イメージから、磁石のように物理的に引き寄せるだけでなく、人の注意や関心を「惹きつける」、客や投資を「呼び込む」へ広がった。
tract を見たら「引く」、前の接頭辞で方向を読むのがコツ。contract（共に引き寄せる→契約・収縮）・distract（別の方向へ引く→気をそらす）・extract（引き出す）が同じ仲間。
