覚え方
英語 camp の起源は、古英語 camp（戦い・囲われた野）である。もともとは「戦いの場」、あるいは「柵で囲まれた野原」を意味していた。
軍が野外に陣を張った「戦いのための囲い地」という意味から、後に一般の「野営地・仮の宿営地」を指す camp（キャンプ）に意味が広がり、動詞としても「キャンプする」として使われるようになった。
camp は元々「戦いの場」と知っておくと、campaign（キャンペーン、元は「陣を張っての軍事行動」）ともイメージがつながる。
