ahead は、-a（音節を加える要素）+ head（頭）という形で、「頭の先に」「頭より前に」という位置関係を表す。そこから空間的な「前方に」だけでなく、時間や順序の「先に」、さらに他者より「先行している」という意味へ広がった。
