non-（〜でない）+ stop（止まる）。「止まらない」がそのまま意味で、「途中で止まらずに・ぶっ通しで」を表す。形容詞としても副詞としても使える。
ビジネスで最もよく出るのは nonstop flight（直行便）。乗り継ぎや途中着陸がない便のことで、direct flight よりも「一度も降りない」ことがはっきりする。副詞なら work nonstop（休みなく働く）、talk nonstop（しゃべり続ける）。
non- は nonprofit（非営利の）・nonsmoking（禁煙の）と同じ打ち消しの接頭辞。non- を見たら「〜しない・〜でない」と読めばよい。
