profileの語源と覚え方
覚え方
pro は「前へ」、file はイタリア語 filare（糸を紡ぐ）。糸を引くように縁をなぞって描いた線、それが profilare（輪郭を描く）で、フランス語 profil を経て「横顔・輪郭」になった。
一本の線で外形だけを示す、という核を押さえると、人物の要点だけを並べた「プロフィール・概要」や、動詞の「概要を作成する」へ広がったのも見えてくる。
a high profile（目立つ存在感）・keep a low profile（目立たないようにする）は、輪郭の見え方をそのまま言った表現である。
