覚え方
conversion は、ラテン語 conversiō（回転・転換）に由来し、convertō（裏返す・方向を変える）から作られた語である。共に・完全にという *kom- と、回転するという *wert- のイメージが合わさり、何かの向きを反対側へ変えることを表した。
そこから、物の「変換・転換」だけでなく、考え方や所属を別のものへ変える「改宗」という意味にも広がった。convert は向きを変える、conversion はその変化の結果と覚えると、convert（変換する・改宗させる）や convertible（変換できる）との関係もわかりやすい。
