覚え方
ラテン語 intrōdūcō（案内する・導入する）= intrō-（内部へ）+ dūcō（導く）。「内側へ導く」というのが原義で、誰かを中へ案内したり、物事を内部へ持ち込んだりする動きを表した。
そこから introduce は、人を場に「紹介する」、新しい考えや制度を「導入する」、物を「持ち込む」という意味になった。introduction（紹介・導入）・introductory（導入の）も同じ仲間で、intro- は「内へ」、duce は「導く」と分けると覚えやすい。
dūcō の背景にある *dewk- は「引く・導く」を表す。produce（前へ導いて生み出す）・reduce（後ろへ導いて減らす）なども、方向を示す部分と duce の組み合わせとして読める。
