覚え方
古フランス語 acompagner(同行する)に遡る accompany の -ing 形。ad-(〜へ)+ compāniō(仲間) で「仲間として連れ立っていく」が原義。
compāniō はさらに kom-(共に)+ peh₂-(守る・世話をする) で、「共に養い合う者」。company(仲間・会社)・companion(連れ)と同族なので、「そばに付いていく」**が芯だと押さえる。
