simulateの語源と覚え方
覚え方
simulate はラテン語 simulō（模倣する・偽装する）に由来し、similis（似た）+ -ō（名詞や形容詞から動詞を作る） と捉えられる。simulis? ではなく、似たものを作る・本物らしく見せるという発想から、現実世界の条件を再現する「模倣する」になった。過去分詞形 simulātus もこの語につながる。
similis は「一つ・共に」を表す *sem- と結びつき、共通点をもつものを「似たもの」と見る。similar（似た）、simulation（模擬）、simultaneous（同時の）をまとめて、simul- を見たら「似せる・一緒にする」と覚えるとよい。
