覚え方
中期オランダ語 splitten（割る・分断する）が英語に入り、split の「割る・分ける・裂ける」になった。一本のものに切れ目を入れて二つ以上にする動作が基本で、そこから組織や意見が「分裂する」、画面や利益などを「分割する」という使い方へ広がっている。
split は過去形・過去分詞も split のまま変わらない。split を見たら「一つのものに裂け目を入れて分ける」と捉えれば、split up（分散する・別れる）や split decision（判定が割れる）も同じイメージで理解できる。
