ラテン語 concurrō（共に走る・衝突する）＝ con-（共に）+ currō（走る）。もとは「一緒に駆け寄る」で、ぶつかり合う場面にも使われた。
英語では「別々の人の考えが同じ地点に行き着く」ほうが育ち、「同意する」に。I concur with your assessment（あなたの評価に同意します）と、会議や判決文で使う硬い語。「同時に起こる」の意味も残っている。
current（流れ）・occur（起こる）・course と同族。「一緒に走って同じ場所に着く」が芯。
