覚え方
agree は古フランス語 agreer（喜ばせる・快く受け入れる）に由来し、ラテン語の「〜へ」と grātum（快い）の組み合わせにさかのぼる。相手の話を快いものとして受け入れることが「同意する」につながった、と考えるとわかりやすい。
綴りでは、頭の a を「〜へ」、後ろの gree を「快い」と読む。相手の考えへ向かって「快い」と応じる姿を思い浮かべるとよい。grateful（感謝している）も「快い」のラテン語 grātus にさかのぼる。
agreeable（感じがよい）、agreement（同意・一致）も同じ線で読める。agree を見たら「相手の考えへ気持ちを向け、快く受け入れる」と読む。
