reactの語源と覚え方
覚え方
react は re-（再び・後ろへ）+ act（作用する） の組み合わせ。何かの働きかけに対して、こちらからもう一度働き返すことが原義で、「反応する」「作用する」という意味になった。
act の背景にある *h₂eǵ-（駆り立てる）は、何かを動かす力のイメージを持つ。action（行動）、active（活動的な）、agent（働きかける人）なども同じ仲間で、act を見たら「駆り立てて動かす」、re- が付けば「働き返す」と読むとよい。
