reactionの語源と覚え方
覚え方
ラテン語 reāctiō（反応・反作用）= reagō（応じて動く・やり返す）+ -tiō（動作や結果を表す名詞を作る）。英語では react（応じて動く）+ -ion の形がそのまま見える。
「相手の動きを受けて、こちらが動き返す」が芯なので、化学反応も、体の拒絶反応も、人の受け答えも同じ語で表せる。物理の law of action and reaction（作用・反作用の法則）が原義に最も近い使い方。reagō につながる *h₂eǵ-（駆り立てる） は act（行う）・agent（動かす人）・agenda（なすべき事）と同族で、act の系統に re- が付いた語と捉えると迷わない。
補足: 日本語でも「リアクション」として使われる。成り立ちは re- + action と react + -ion のどちらで捉えても構わない。
