discardの語源と覚え方
覚え方
discard は dis-（離れて・分離して）+ card（カード）と分けて、「カードを手元から離す」というイメージで覚えられる。カードゲームで不要なカードを場から外すことから、「捨てる」や「却下する」へ意味が広がった。
dis- は「離す・反対にする」方向を示すため、discard は「カードを離して捨てる」、という組み立てになる。dis- を見たら、何かを遠ざける動きを思い浮かべると、dismiss や disconnect などの語にも応用できる。
