fabricの語源と覚え方
覚え方
fab は「職人」、ic が「〜に関する」を添える。職人が手仕事をする場を指すラテン語 fābrica が元で、そこで織り上げられたものが「布」、組み立てられたありさまが「構造」になった。
だから fabric は布そのものにも、物や社会の組み立てにも使える。a cotton fabric（綿の布）、the fabric of society（社会の構造）。
fabricate（こしらえる）と同じ fab で、材料を組み合わせて作られたものと押さえると、布と構造の両方をつかめる。
