覚え方

paper は、書いたり印刷したりする薄い材料を表す。そこから、紙そのものだけでなく、新聞・書類・論文、さらに壁紙のように紙を使ったものまで意味が広がった。

「紙に載せた内容」という発想から、paper は「論文」や「新聞記事」の意味でも使われる。paper を見たら、薄い紙と、そこに記録された内容の両方を思い浮かべるとよい。paperwork（書類仕事）・newspaper（新聞）・wallpaper（壁紙）も同じイメージで覚えられる。
