覚え方
perception はラテン語 perceptiō（知覚・理解）に由来し、percipiō（完全につかむ・知覚する）+ -tiō（動作・過程・結果を表す名詞語尾）と分けて考えられる。目や耳から入った情報をしっかりつかみ、意味を理解する過程が perception、つまり「知覚・認識」である。
percipiō の背景にある *kap- は「つかむ・保持する」を表す。単に刺激を受けるだけでなく、情報を心の中でつかんで解釈するイメージが重要だ。cap を見たら「つかむ」と連想すれば、perception は「感覚情報をつかんで理解すること」と覚えられる。
