覚え方
per は「最後まで・徹底的に」、fect はラテン語 faciō（作る・なす）。最後までなし終える perficiō から、その仕上がりを表す perfectiō が生まれた。
芯は「欠点がない」よりも「もうやり残しがない」である。だから文法の完了形も the perfect tense と呼ばれ、動作がし終わっていることを指す。
fect は「なす・作る」で、effect（なし出された結果）・defect（なし損ない→欠陥）と同じ部品。to perfection（申し分なく）、Practice makes perfect. のように、動詞 perfect（完成させる）と一緒に覚えたい。
