覚え方
ラテン語 dēdicō = dē-（すっかり）+ dicō（宣言して捧げる）。「これは神のものです、と公に宣して捧げる」が原義で、神殿の奉献に使われた。そこから「（人生・時間を）捧げる」「（建物・本を）〜に献じる」「（予算を）充てる」へ広がった。
dicō は「言う・示す」の大family で、dictate（言い渡す→口述する）・indicate（指し示す）・predict（前もって言う→予測する）が親戚。dic を見たら「言う・示す」。
