replaceの語源と覚え方
覚え方
replace は re-（再び・後ろへ）+ place（置く場所）。いったん置かれたものを「元の位置へ戻す」イメージから、「交換する」「別のものに取って代わる」という意味へ発展した。
place の背景にある pleth₂-（広がる・平らになる） は、物を置ける平らな場所のイメージにつながる。re- が付く語では「もう一度・元へ」、place が見えたら「置く場所」と考えると、replace の「置き換える」が覚えやすい。
