decisionの語源と覚え方
覚え方
cis はラテン語 caedō（切る）、de は dē-（下へ・離れて）。合わさった dēcīdō は「切り落として決着させる」で、その行為と結果を名詞にしたのが dēcīsiō、英語の decision である。選択肢をばっさり切り落とすことが原義。
そこから「決定・判断」。make a decision（決める）、reach a decision（結論に至る）、decision-making（意思決定）が基本の形で、迷いを断つ響きがある。
precise（切り詰めて正確な）・concise（簡潔な）・incision（切開）と同じ cis。「切って一つに絞った結果」と読める。
