覚え方
古フランス語 conveier（付き添う）から。人や荷に付き添って道を行くのが原義で、芯の *kom-（共に） がその「一緒に」を支えている。
そこから物を「運ぶ」、さらに情報や気持ちを相手のところまで運ぶ「伝える・言い表す」へ広がった。convey a message（伝言を伝える）、words cannot convey my gratitude（言葉では感謝を伝えきれない）。法律では財産を「譲渡する」。
同じ出どころの convoy（護送・船団）は「付き添って行く」を色濃く残す。conveyance（運搬・輸送手段）、conveyor（コンベヤー）も同族。「運ぶ」と「伝える」は同じ動作の内側と外側と考えるとよい。
