覚え方
oc は「〜に向かって」、cas はラテン語 cadō（落ちる）。時が向こうから落ちてくる、巡ってくるという occāsiō が「好機」を表した。
そこから英語では、巡り合わせとしての「場合・折」、特別な日としての「行事」へ広がった。cas は「落ちる」で、case（起きた事柄）・accident（降りかかる出来事）と同じ感覚である。
on this occasion（この折に）、a special occasion（晴れの場）。occasionally（時折）も、たまたま巡ってくるという同じ発想から来ている。
